Also known as Urubamba Valley, the Sacred Valley of the Incas is located in the Peruvian Andes, beneath the world famous site of Machu Picchu and not far from Cuzco, the cultural capital of Peru. This fertile valley is fed by a network of waterways and encompasses a wealth of important archaeological sites. The historic and ancient city of Ollantaytambo, once a fortress in the fight against the Spanish conquistadors in the 16th century, before being eventually abandoned. Today, the original walls from Incan times and the huge stone terraces loom large over the the picturesque town with its narrow stone cobbled streets. Moray, an ancient agricultural research center with its terracing and a working irrigation system. Pisac, with its ancient vestiges and colourful weekly market and of course the centrally located Urubamba, the economic centre of the valley with its bustling markets and busy lanes.

Cusco the cultural Capital of Peru
Once called the ‘Navel of the World’ by the Incas, Cusco remains a city that blends colonial Spanish charm with older, more austere remains of pre-Columbian glory. One can still see the foundations of Inca structures on many of its city streets today.
