Chonta Glamping - take me to the stars

Updated: Feb 1, 2022

Chonta is a small picturesque village nestled on a mountain ridge above the deep gorge of the Apurimac river on one side and with a splendid view of the Vilkabamba-Mountain range on the other. Besides the exceptionally beautiful views, Chonta is a great place to observe the Condors in their natural habitat. From the easy accessible view points, one has the chance to see them slowly rise on their incredible wingspan from the depth of the Apurimac Canyon. Chonta also offers a great opportunity to acclimatise for the high altitude treks of Salkantay and Inca Trail.

The Chonta community and Q’inti

In line with our company ethos on community inclusive tourism, we are proud to announce that we have signed an agreement with the Chonta community for the next five years. The agreement highlights a joint effort to bring tourism benefits to the community and to create jobs for the younger generations. Like so many mountain villages in the Andes, young people leave their homes in search of better job opportunities in the cities. Chonta too is facing a “overaging” because of this.

The objective of our glamping project is to train, include and team up with the community, to create a beautiful village and nature experience, reflecting the warm hospitality of the people.
